Overview

A Psychology of Grace is based on the idea that few if any of us want to think of ourselves as a bad person. We want to see ourselves as a good person, a person worthy of love and respect. This may seem like a benign or even a noble desire. But it can lead to a life of self-justification, a life in which much of what we think and say and do is directed by the self-justifying strategies we use to protect and promote our feeling of being a good person. We can embrace that life if we choose. Many of us do. Or we can do something different and choose grace. The focus of this book, therefore, is on grace and how choosing grace over self-justification can lead to a very different life, a healing life in which we have no use for self-justification or any of the pain it brings.
