Overview

Dorothy Kennedy discovers a black man's body on her front sidewalk. How inconvenient! She asks her black housekeeper, Clara, for assistance as her husband is a cop. They pass the matter on to the local Nassau County, Long Island police. The death seems racially motivated and starts spiralling out of local control into an international web of deceit. The dead man, Jack Borne, a banker, resembles a spy employed by the US Government - Chet Lake. US Intelligence inserts Chet into the dead man's illegal Vatican-based financial network. Chet Lake enters into Borne's circle with ease. They look enough alike to fool members of Borne's global family of wives, children and mistresses as he uncovers the deep, dark secrets of a Church mired in human and financial corruption. Chet travels the world, learning of the duplicity and criminal actions undertaken in the name of the Roman Catholic Church. He is shielded by a detective, Jonny Johnson, assigned to find Borne's killer. Chet races across four continents, culminating in a meeting with the Pope. The Pope, a weak man, is horrified by the revelation but unable to act so Chet uses another holy man to move the Pope to resignation and closure.Chet & Johnson concoct a plan to have Borne die as Chet Lake, a hero. Of course, the real Chet Lake can now exit the spy business - at least for now!
