Overview

After World War II, most of Asia gained their independence from colonial military rule. Many Asia countries would fall into the web of communism and despot regimes that administered policies which led to atrocities against its political rivals, religious and ethnic cleansing of its own people. America's policies in Asia focused on the containment of communism with an effort to stop its spread throughout Asia. While America was attempting to stop the spread of communism through military intervention, more sinister despots immerged to take over countries that had been weakened by decades of war and internal chaos. Douglas Beaudoin is a lifelong Alaskan who is an avid student of history. He spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy in 1966 to 1970, two years of which in Southeast Asia. He spends much of his time traveling learning about Asian culture and history. He lives in in Alaska and Thailand and is currently working on several nonfiction books about Alaska and American History.
