OverviewThe group of older people is not a homogeneous demographic group; rather, they represent all sections of the population. Many older people therefore come from social groups that in the past enjoyed full social participation and were well-off, perhaps even serving as cornerstones of their social environment. This study examines the extent to which older people have been able to maintain their social participation, whether there have been any losses in this regard, and, if so, what reasons and circumstances have caused them. Furthermore, suggestions and concepts are presented that could help to enable all older people to (re)gain full social participation. The focus of this thesis is on community-based social work and community development.
