Even our own president seems clueless, assuring us that yes, yes, he believes in American exceptionalism, just like the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism and the British in British exceptionalism. But American Exceptionalism is not about cheerleading for the home team. It's about recognizing and honoring the history-making, world-changing ideals our Founding Fathers enshrined to make this a nation of the people, by the people, for the people. And, as Lincoln warned, we must rededicate ourselves to those principles, lest our truly exceptional nation perish from this earth."

Author Information

Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, is coauthor of several bestselling books, including Pearl Harbor: A Novel of December 8 and Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War. He is a member of the Defense Policy Board and is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course at the United States Air Force's Air University. Callista Gingrich is the president of Gingrich Productions, a performance and production company focusing on audio, video, and photographic production. She is married to Newt Gingrich.
