Reviews

Dr. Andreas Häberlin’s A Music Transcription Method: Notating Recorded Music by Ear is an invaluable resource for musicians, educators, and industry professionals. It masterfully combines theoretical insights with practical frameworks, making the complex art of music transcription accessible and engaging. The book's structured approach, paired with real-world applications and cutting-edge tools, ensures that readers not only develop technical skills but also gain a deeper appreciation for the nuances of recorded music. A must-read for anyone serious about honing their transcription craft! —Dr. Camille Colatosti – Provost, Interlochen Center for the Arts Dr. Andreas Häberlin’s first book is a groundbreaking resource that redefines how we approach the art of music transcription. By blending analytical listening, structured processes, and practical application, this book enables readers to decode recorded music with precision and creativity. What sets this work apart is Häberlin’s ability to demystify complex methodologies while fostering a holistic understanding of musical structure, orchestration, and interpretation. It’s not just a guide—it’s an invitation to experience music in a profoundly deeper way. Perfect for anyone looking to elevate their transcription skills or uncover new dimensions in music analysis. —Gael Hedding – Grammy- & Latin Grammy-winning Music Producer & Engineer, Director, Berklee Abu Dhabi In film scoring and media composition, the development of a fine-tuned ear is a necessity. Many scores are born from abstractions and musical improvisation, and with constantly tight deadlines, a composer's greatest strength is the ability to accurately transcribe on the fly. While active listening and devoted practice can help sharpen this skill, the craft itself can often feel nebulous and difficult to navigate. Dr. Andreas Häberlin has astutely found a way to isolate this intricate process, offering detailed, practical tools and an intuitive creative perspective. Through his new book, A Music Transcription Method: Notating Recorded Music by Ear, we can begin to appreciate not only the granularity and detail of his transcription methods, but find ways to broaden our technical scope and analyze musical intent through a holistic lens. —Stephanie Economou – Grammy-winning Film & Video Game Composer, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3; Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok
