Frances Hodgson Burnett, American-English novelist and playwright, was born on 24 November 1849 in Manchester, England. She began to write in her teens in order to support her family. She is best known for her three children’s novels, Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886), A Little Princess (1905) and The Secret Garden (1911).
