A Little Prince in the Land of the Mullahs: The true story of Ahmad Raouf Basharidoust, a teenager who stood up to the mullahs' regime in Iran

Overview

Ahmad Raouf Basharidoust, the hero of this book, was young, fearless, courageous and driven by the ideals of freedom, sharing and equality. Driven by the hope of one day bringing these ideals to his country and people, he faced the violence of the mullahs' regime, risking his life in a long and difficult struggle that led him to prison. Like him, many resisters of all ages and conditions faced the tyranny of Khomeini's regime, and from an early age faced the darkness and suffering of the prisons. Some 30,000 of them perished in the 1988 mass executions and enforced disappearances in prisons, a massacre organised by the Iranian authorities. The vast majority of them were under thirty years old; many had been detained since the age of 13 or 14. This book is dedicated to them: may these countless red roses of the Iranian people's resistance not be forgotten. Ingrid Betancourt Colombian-French former Senator held hostage for 6 years: ""The story of A Little Prince in the Land of the Mullahs reveals to us, without any pretenses, the human tragedy facing millions of Iranians. With Ahmad, we can go through this tragedy, live it and try to understand why, so that the truth can no longer be hidden, so that justice can be done, and so that the liberation so long awaited by the Iranian people can happen."" Linda Chavez Former White House director of public liaison: ""A Little Prince in the Land of the Mullahs revives the little hero in the reader by telling the story of a brave young man who wants nothing more than to live the life that all boys and girls want: to be free, happy, and secure in his homeland. Like tens of thousands of others, the little prince suffers. He faces arrest, torture, and ultimately sacriifces his life."" HUFFINGTON POST: ""This story is essential. It's a remarkable biopic!"" BLASTING NEWS: ""A comic strip different from the others .../... a subject that is still relevant today"" IO Presse T.R: ""Simple images and phrases tell the story of Iran's 'darkest page'.../... This comic strip is also very educational"" ENTREPRENDRE: ""The first victims of fundamentalism in the name of Islam are Muslims themselves"" 20 Minutes: ""A deep feeling of revolt, of helplessness in the face of the intolerable""
