Overview

This book is an invitation into the life of a great man, Lee Roy Selmon, as told by his love, his partner in life - his wife, Claybra. Claybra invites you to go on a journey that is filled with laughter, lessons, love, family, joy, football of course, and so many wonderful memories. -Excerpt from Foreword by Lucious Selmon Superlatives define the late Lee Roy Selmon: strongest, fastest, most dedicated, kindest, most humble, the best. Former University of Oklahoma head football coach, Barry Switzer said, Lee Roy Selmon was among the greatest athletes I ever coached. Lee Roy, along with brothers Lucious and Dewey, formed a formidable trio that catapulted the Sooners to two back-to-back national football championships in 1975 and 1976. Lee Roy won the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award and was NFL's #1 draft pick in 1976 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Selmon was born and raised alongside his eight siblings in a tiny farm house near Eufaula, Oklahoma. Parents, Lucious Sr. and Jessie Selmon, instilled in all their children the importance of honesty, hard work, perseverance and godliness. Lee Roy's spiritual foundation was formed early and nurtured by a deep desire to please God above all else. Selmon's time with the Bucs was nothing less than amazing: 6X's selected to Pro Bowl, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, entered College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 then inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. After retiring from football he helped develop and build the football program at the University of South Florida while also establishing himself as an astute businessman. Then, in 2011, Selmon suffered the massive stroke that took his life at the age of 56-years-old. Claybra Selmon offers this intimate glimpse into the life of the man she knew best. The remaining Selmons have also added memories and insights to the story that is not just Lee Roy's, but the story of a legendary Oklahoma family. These are the tender yet powerful elements which created a man whose life we admired and one that made lasting impressions on all he met. Lee Roy Selmon loved greatly and was greatly loved. Truly, his was A Life That Shined.
