OverviewBeginning your story by introducing the intergenerational connections you have with your ancestors immediately draws the reader into the underlying theme of the book: Your life has been shaped by the influences of your family. The Ancestors' Stories/Our Tribe section, filled with memories of your family dynamics, traits, experiences, and personalities, provides an excellent launching point for the author's message: You were blessed to have a good family, and you pay tribute to your ancestors by writing this book. The life lessons learned from family members are alluded to and magnified as your story unfolds, underscoring the fact that the author's early years were shaped by ancestors' lives, underscoring the lifelong influences that come from having been raised in a black family with solid values. The incidents, friendships, challenges, and victories described in the author's early years provide the reader with the foundational moments that eventually shape the mature man into one who was not afraid of a fight and was a man of his word. The character portrayals and descriptions of incidents during elementary school, high school, the university, while playing sports, and even while in military service, are vividly described, underscoring how friendships are valued and those who oppose you were challenged, when necessary. Whenever issues of racial discrimination arose, you were prepared for, and delivered, the necessary challenge, confrontation, or verbal response, handling the matter in a mature, no-nonsense manner. Moving into your professional life as a teacher, then a real estate appraiser allows the reader to see the fruits of a life lived in honesty. The awards and accolades you received as you maneuvered through a long career were certainly well deserved.
