Everything you wanted to know about the Merrie England of the Tudors and some things you probably did not. If the Tudors seem far removed, they are also curiously modern. They had spectacles and metal prosthetic arms, while a fuming pot was but a prototype Air Wick. JOHN MATUSIAK studied at the universities of London and Sussex before embarking upon a teaching career that eventually spanned more than thirty years. He is the author of six books in all, including biographies of Henry VIII, Thomas Wolsey and James I, and The Tudors in 100 Objects, and is currently completing a new history of the Thirty Years War.
