He was 79 years old. With his death, the University of Aberdeen lost one of its most distinguished medical graduates, and Britain the most learned medical scholar and historian of its time.Charles Creighton was born in Peterhead (Scotland) on November 21, 1847, the son of Alexander Creighton, a sawmill and timber merchant from that city. After attending the local school, he was sent to the Gym in Old Aberdeen, then under the auspices of Govy Anderson. From the Gym . went to King's College as ninth treasurer. Here I have contacted Minto and Robertson Smith, who were his closest friends.Creighton graduated from MA in 1867 and went to Marischal College to receive medicine. After a time, and as a result, I think, of friction with one of the professors, he left and finished his training in Edinburgh, but returned to graduate MB in Aberdeen in 1871.Wanderjahre and spent considerable time in Berlin and Vienna under Virchow and Rokitansky, the best pathologists of the time.
