Overview

Georgia has a rich Civil War heritage, perhaps second only to Virginia. Several major battles were fought here - Chickamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, Battle of Atlanta, Peachtree Creek - and two major campaigns that pretty much destroyed the Confederacy - Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, and Sherman's March to the Sea. Two significant prisoner of war camps were located in Georgia - Andersonville, and Millen (Camp Lawton). This book will examine the Civil War in Georgia, with special emphasis on what is left today. Battlefields, hospitals, headquarters, training camps, manufacturing sites, and National and Confederate Cemeteries dot the landscape throughout northwestern and central Georgia.Where possible, addresses are included for GPS units.Over 110 photos, maps and newspaper pages are included in this book.
