Overview

LaGrange, French for the farm, was settled in 1825 in a prime area of Lorain County woodland for agriculture. Close enough to Lake Erie and the Black River for fun and business, this hub of activity grew from a sleepy frontier settlement to not only a bustling township, but also a village. Through the march of time, this area has seen the rise of the railroads, with mills and agriculture, cheese factories, lumber mills and even the Nickle Plate Community and quarry. Richly illustrated with photos by Calvin Wilcox and written in conjunction with the LaGrange Historical Society, this book celebrates 150 years of the Village of LaGrange and 200 years of LaGrange Township.
