Author Information

Melody (Boothman) Monk was born in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Middleboro was one of the rare school systems that offered Russian as a foreign language. She feels very privileged to have studied with John Sullivan from grade eight to grade twelve. She enjoyed her Russian classes so much that she decided to major in Russian in college. Tom Monk was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Lakewood, Colorado as a child. He also studied Russian from grade eight to grade twelve. He met Melody in 1975 when they were freshmen together and lived on the Russian Language floor at the University of Colorado. Their first introduction was in Russian during the formal orientation of the language dormitory. Together they decided to use their love of Slavic languages and their love of God to go wherever God might lead. Their first assignment was in Yugoslavia during the break-up of the country. Their second assignment took them to Moscow, Russia during the turbulent early nineties. Melody shares the laughter, fear, heartache and adventure as they raised their family of four children and followed God into the unknown. Through it all they witnessed events that could only be described by saying, Wow! Now that was a God thing!
