Overview

A First Grader Can Write Poems By: Elsie Okoro A First Grader Can Write Poems is a poetry anthology written by author Elsie Okoro when she was just seven years old. The poems are a unique look into the mind of a young girl first learning about the world around her, and a testament to the lasting influence that an exposure to art can have on school-aged children. The creation of this anthology sparked a fervent appreciation for poetry and creative writing in Okoro and inspired her to dream of becoming a professional poet. About the Author Elsie Okoro is a poet and lifelong lover of literature from Lagos, Nigeria. She was initially exposed to poetry in the first grade and quickly developed a love for the art that has stayed with her throughout her entire life. Poetry has always been a creative and emotional outlet for Okoro and is a passion that she is now pursuing professionally. In 2016, she became a semifinalist for the North Carolina Regional Poetry Out Loud Recitation Competition. And in 2018, she performed at the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational with the official slam team for her university, UNC-Chapel Hill. Okoro currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where she studies creative writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
