Parents have the same desires for their children today that Charlotte Maria Shaw Mason identified 100 years ago in her educational philosophy. Parents want their children to be seen as persons. They want to cultivate a childhood full of freedom coupled with safety that allows their children to flourish. Although parents have the same desires today as in yesteryear, we do not live in Mason's world. We live in a digital age with information being offered everywhere all the time. Can parents return to Mason's wisdom and realistically apply it in this digital age? In this monograph, we offer a modern, practical interpretation of Charlotte Mason's ideas for 21st-century parents and teachers educating 21st-century children. We liken the creation of educational spaces for children to the construction of a house, with an intentional foundation, four cornerstones, and well-placed windows. From this analogy and other examples, we hope readers will gain a clearer understanding of how Mason's educational philosophy might guide the organization of time and spaces for our children and help us to lay a feast of living ideas in a world of bytes.
