Author Information
Dr Lee Rotherham is a graduate of the University of London and has two research degrees from the University of Birmingham. A linguist and historian by background, he has spent many years in the political front line. Lee has fought two general elections and was part of the leadership campaign teams of Iain Duncan Smith, and Dr Liam Fox. He is also a sergeant in the Territorial Army. He has extensive parliamentary and campaigning experience. He was the EU expert to Westminster Group of Eight Eurorebels; has advised three Shadow Foreign Secretaries; liaised with a multinational group of Eurosceptic MEPs in the European Parliament; and was Chief of Staff to the Rt Hon David Heathcoat-Amory MP, parliamentary delegate to the Convention on the Future of Europe, where he played a major role in the battles against the EU Constitution. He remains deeply committed to a sovereign, democratic, and deregulated United Kingdom. He's also at various times worked in a publishing firm, as a teacher, on a farm, and in Whitehall. Lee has written many booklets, pamphlets, papers and articles on a variety of subjects, from fisheries to terrorism, and is co-author of the 2006 hit Bumper Book of Government Waste - work on which first inspired him to take a closer interest in what is going on in the Mayor's Office. He is also a sergeant in the Territorial Army. He has been mobilised, and spent six months peacekeeping in Iraq. He has fought two general elections. In 2001, he was Conservative candidate in the high-profile butler campaign against Shaun Woodward in St Helens South, and was to be seen scooting around parts of the constituency in what ITN called a small tank in protest at army cuts. In 2005, he fought Denis MacShane in Rotherham. He was also part of the leadership campaign teams of Iain Duncan Smith, and Dr Liam Fox. He was also a candidate for the Conservative mayoral selection, campaigning for the abolition of the mayoralty. Lee is also keen on photography, and maintains an interest as an amateur archaeologist. A fluent French speaker, he murders a number of other languages.
