A Dog and His Boy

Overview

A Dog and His Boy is about friendship and loyalty through life's ups and downs. The storyline centers around a boy named Jeremy whose parents gave him a puppy for making straight A's all through school. Jeremy was kind of a loner and a new puppy was just what the doctor ordered! He named the puppy Travis. Jeremy soon learned that Travis was no ordinary dog. Travis was special. He was extremely intelligent and always seemed to be a step ahead of Jeremy, even bailing him out of trouble on occasion. They were inseparable. Life was perfect until they met Sweet Pea, the neighbor's pint-sized Morkie. Little did Travis know that meeting Sweet Pea would change his life forever. He wants nothing to do with her and he makes a plan to run away. His plan works just fine....until the unthinkable happens. This leads Travis and Sweet Pea to forge an unbreakable bond. They quickly become famous heroes in the neighborhood and beloved by Jeremy's family. As the years go by, there are changes in the lives of every character in this story. Through it all, the close friendship between a dog and his boy shines through. Read on to find out how it all comes about!

Author Information

Elvira draws her inspiration from the Bible, from nature and from her childhood experiences. When she is not writing or creating, Elvira loves spending time with her grand-children and great grand-children and sharing the Bible's message with others. It is her hope that the readers of this book find as much joy reading it as she did writing it. Joyce was born in 1953 in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She is thankful for a strong and loving mother who instilled in her the value of hard work and honesty. After graduating high school, Joyce attended the University of Findlay (then known as Findlay College) from 1971 to 1975. Findlay is a Christian liberal arts institution known for cultivating innovative thinkers through a dedication to experiential learning, both in and outside the classroom. She pursued a psychology degree to better understand the correlation between the mind and behavior and learn how motivations influence human actions. After graduating, Joyce began a thirty-six-year career with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working in multiple programs, such as mental health, public and environmental health, and, eventually, public administration. During this time, she recognized the need for additional training and entered a master's program in Health Services Administration at Central Michigan University. ""Throughout my journey"", she says, ""I've learned the importance of growth, resilience, and empathy. Most importantly, I studied and became a baptized follower of Jehovah God. This path has brought me more joy and purpose than any training course I have taken, and I hope it can inspire others as well."" Dawn is a fine artist who received her formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Art. From an early age, she demonstrated an affinity for art, and her artistic expression was encouraged by her parents who themselves possessed artistic talents. Throughout her career, Dawn has worked as a graphic and a visual artist in both the public and private sector and has collaborated with other artists on numerous projects. She currently teaches painting and ceramics and counts it as a blessing to be able to make a living doing something she loves and helping others to discover their own creative abilities. Though having a fulfilling career as an artist, Dawn's greatest joy comes from teaching people about the Bible and seeing their faces light up as they learn about its Author and the wonderful future he holds out to us. Dawn is honored to have a part in helping to bring ""A Dog and His Boy"" to life.
