A Different Kind of Edge: Transitioning from Skater to Coach: A Guide to Figure Skating Foundations

Overview

During those early days of coaching, I searched everywhere for a book that carefully explained the techniques behind skating. It was hard for me to remember the basics. I wanted to be more specific about where a skater should press on the blade, how to teach jump rotation, increase speed, etc. This is the book I wanted but couldn't find when I started my coaching career. This book is a resource for the skater who wants to transition from being an athlete to being a coach. I hope it can inspire skaters to not only build a strong baseline, but help them create their own ideas about coaching. The most amazing thing I found during my coaching journey is how everything in figure skating connects and builds on itself. About the Author Jessica Rensch grew up skating in Florida and Colorado. She graduated from James Madison University with a degree in psychology and applies her degree towards teaching, coaching, and writing. Jessica is fascinated with the way figure skating works and loves sharing what she learns with other skaters and coaches. She enjoys learning from others and discovering new and creative ways to teach skating skills. Jessica lives in Missouri with her husband, son, and three donkeys.
