Bill Griffiths settled in Seaham, Co. Durham in 1990, in a sad decade for traditional trades and communities. Sometimes it seemed that only dialect was left as evidence of the centuries of hard work and social commitment that shaped the North East. With its love of story-telling, antique diction and dark humour, dialect seems to typify the best of the North East in a way that can never be outmoded but will always sparkle with optimism and inventiveness.
