A corporate Trainer's Little Book of Wisdom

Overview

Does your training survive contact with the real world? If you've ever stood in front of a room of people who are checking their emails, staring blankly at the screen, or wondering if they still have a job next week, you know the truth: Corporate training is messy. We've all studied the theories. We've all seen and used Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. But here's the thing: Maslow never had to deliver a compliance workshop to a stressed-out sales team on a Friday afternoon. Traditional, rigid academic models often fall apart when faced with the unpredictable reality of the workplace. A Corporate Trainer's Little Book of Wisdom is the antidote to dry, academic textbooks. It is a practical, ""roll-up-your-sleeves"" guide designed specifically for trainers, and anyone who needs to make learning stick in a corporate environment. Introducing the PRIME Framework. This book introduces PRIME - a flexible, dynamic approach that adapts to your learners, not the other way around. Through following the journey of Jordan, a trainer navigating the ups and downs of our profession, you'll be introduced tc the six core elements of impactful training: Purpose: moving beyond ""learning objectives"" to find what truly matters to your learners. Readiness: ensuring you, your learners, and your environment are actually prepared for success. Interaction: creating meaningful exchanges, not just forced ""fun."" Motivation: sparking the drive to learn, even in reluctant participants. Enabling & Support: ensuring the learning survives once they leave the room. Foundational Needs: fixing the invisible barriers (like physical comfort and psychological safety) that quietly kill engagement. What's inside? This isn't a book to sit on a shelf; it's a toolkit to keep in your bag. You'll find: Real-world troubleshooting guides: What to do when the energy drops, the technology fails, or the sceptics take over. Reflective exercises: To help you evolve your own unique training style. Practical Templates: From ""Purpose Planning"" to ""Readiness Checklists"" that you can use for your very next session. 18+ downloadable templates Training isn't just about delivering content; it's about enabling people to do their jobs better and happier. Whether you are delivering your first session or your five-hundredth, this book gives you the structure to turn ""just another meeting"" into a learning experience that makes a difference. Let's get started!

Author Information

Simon has been working in Learning and Development since 2006, starting as a Trainer for one of the UK Police Forces, training new operators within the highly demanding Control Room and Communications department. There was little budget to work with and so he and his team learned the hard way what worked and what didn't and build on that to develop a series of extremely successful courses. After several years, where his career developed into programme design and project managing large scale training projects, he left the safety of employment and became a contractor, currently working for the UK Home Office as the training lead on a national Emergency Services communications programme. Simon really loves training, and will always describe himself as a Trainer, feeling most satisfied when helping others find that 'lightbulb moment' where they can do more.
