Table of ContentsReviewsReviewed by Jamie Michele for Readers' Favorite A Chicken Coop Chaos Christmas by Nancy Tavares follows Pearl, a no-nonsense hen who runs her chicken coop with strict order, until a boisterous rooster named Wendell moves in and disrupts her peaceful routine. When Wendell drags a giant Christmas tree into the coop, chaos erupts among the hens, leaving Pearl frustrated and determined to bring things back under control. But as strange noises and mysterious movements come from the glittering tree, Pearl becomes convinced that something is hiding inside. Her efforts to uncover the culprit lead to a series of noisy, slapstick moments involving falling ornaments, startled hens, and Pearl's reluctant bravery as she investigates the intruder. Through all the uproar, Wendell's cheerful attitude clashes with Pearl's need for structure, pushing her to deal with the ever-growing commotion that has turned her once orderly coop upside down. A Chicken Coop Chaos Christmas by Nancy Tavares is written in a lively cumulative style that builds rhythm and repetition through quick dialogue, playful sound words, and tightly paced action Watching Pearl completely lose her cool is absolutely hilarious, and Wendell is the perfect rooster to take on the task of bringing in the holiday spirit, and a few surprises that shake up her carefully run home. The language is crisp and perfectly tuned for reading aloud, each line moving with the bounce and timing young listeners love, and brilliant mishaps that ultimately show how different personalities can share the same space. The illustrations by Sian Moore are fantastic in a beautifully muted cartoon style, and my daughter loved that the coop resembled a real house and pointed out new details every time we read it. Overall, this is a wonderful reminder that harmony often begins with a bit of chaos.
