In 1983, Ronald Reagan signed into law a federal holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Three years later, the holiday was formally observed by the federal government, and, in response to the growing number of musical celebrations of the holiday in churches and concert venues, public squares and city halls, Anthony McDonald published the first edition in 1996 of The Catalog of Music Written in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Now, more than a decade after its 1999 second edition, McDonald presents a definitive third edition of the catalog.
