A Carnival of Unicorns: One Man's Pursuit of Marine Biology in a Political World

Overview

Ever wonder what drives scientists to spend a lifetime pursuing their passion? In this engaging and scholarly memoir, one of Florida's leading pioneers in marine biology gives us a glimpse. Robert ""Bob"" Ingle weaves an intriguing tale of history, science, politics and personal insight. He recounts his early days as a WWII-era scientist studying tropical diseases in Trinidad and the Caribbean. His later research finds him in Cuba, Japan, Iran and other far-flung countries of the world. His career is marked by the strong belief that honest science, rather than politics, should guide decisions about management of natural resources. His life is a testament to this belief, as evidenced throughout the book. His wry humor and musings offer readers a rare insider's look at the political tug-of-war he encounters along the way.
