OverviewSet in an age when longing was tempered by restraint, three young lives entwine, each rebelling against their disparate upbring. Jack, a mature maths student adrift in loneliness; Jo, a classicist, remote, arrogant and bound by the scars of her past; and in between Aoife, a medic, Jo's former lover, playful, mercurial - her exile, a hidden flame. During Jo and Jack's tentative early outing, a random act of violence renders Jack an invalid. In order to provide care required for him to remain at university, the three are compelled to live in intimate proximity. An unorthodox triangle is formed binding the three together. The accidental consequence of one night of reckless passion alters the paths of their lives forever. The fragile balance between them shattered. Jo must strip away the remnants of her painful past, Jack must risk stepping beyond the narrow confines of propriety, and Aoife has to reconcile her hard-won freedom with loss and an unforeseen future. In the aftermath, the embers of love still flicker: strange, imperfect and impossible to define, but truth sleeps alone.
