Overview

In 1979, long-time Kitsap resident Emma Brumm and her daughter Bertha were interviewed by their paper carrier Clayton Kauzlaric. He was writing a paper for his Washington State History class. It started as a simple story about life in Seabeck and Lone Rock during an earlier time. It ended up becoming a 30 page document detailing Emma's life growing up in Nebraska, her journey to the Pacific Northwest with her family and the decades that followed as a teacher in the Central Kitsap School District. Emma and her daughter shared a wealth of stories, photos and documents that have been updated, restored and preserved for anyone interested in this slice of Kitsap County's past.
