OverviewIn 1915, Leon W. Schroeder and his cousin Harwood E. Temple were high school students in St. Paul, Minnesota. With a few basic supplies and a little cash, the two boys set out on a roundtrip bicycle journey to New York and Boston. They left St. Paul on June 28 and returned home on October 8, after pedaling and walking 3,627 miles through twelve states. 65 years later, in 1980, Leon Schroeder wrote a detailed description of the entire trip. The 310-page book was typewritten, with photos and illustrations pasted in. Twelve signed and numbered hardbound duplicates were made for family members. In 2023, one of Leon Schroeder's original typewritten books was digitally photographed to produce this replica. In this colorful day-by-day narrative of their bicycle journey, Leon and Harwood provide us with a wonderful view of life in the USA in the early 20th Century. It was an era of goodwill, generosity, muddy roads, and innocent adventure.
