Christa Bertelsmeier-Kierst studierte Germanistik, Anglistik, Kunstgeschichte und Philosophie in Bonn; es folgten Promotion und Habilitation. Nach ihrer Lehrtätigkeit in Köln und Bonn ist sie Professorin in Marburg (Schwerpunkt: Mittelalter u. Renaissance). Rainer Stillers studierte Romanistik und Germanistik in Düsseldorf; es folgten Promotion und Habilitation. Der Autor war Professor in Konstanz (Schwerpunkt: Italianistik/Neulatein) und Marburg (Schwerpunkt: Italienisch/Französisch) und ist Vorsitzender der Deutschen Dante-Gesellschaft.
