This beautifully illustrated book showcases a selection of 60 remarkable interiors selected from the thousands cared for by the National Trust – from the opulence of Osterley’s Neo-classical state rooms to the simple relatability of a Liverpool council-house parlour. Rooms are the human imagination made real and they resonate with histories that are both personal and universal. Birth, death and all the chapters of life in between are framed within rooms. We impress our taste and personality on them, fill them with meaningful and beautiful objects, and, in turn, they bear witness to the events both great and small that shape our lives. Among the interiors featured in this book are the earthen dovecote fashioned within the derelict Tattershall Castle, the delicate Shell Gallery of A la Ronde and the magnificent carved room at Petworth. Author Information

Elizabeth Green is the National Trust’s Senior National Curator for Architectural History and has been a curator within the National Trust since 2002. She is the author of 60 Remarkable Buildings of the National Trust (National Trust Cultural Heritage Publishing, 2023). Lucy Porten is the Senior National Curator for London and the South East and Cultural and Oral Histories. She has been a National Trust curator, working both regionally and nationally, since 2003. She is the author of the guidebook for Osterley (National Trust, 2018). James Rothwell is a National Curator at the National Trust specialising in decorative arts. He has worked at the National Trust since 1995 and overseen the restoration and transformation of many historic interiors. He is the author of Silver for Entertaining (Philip Wilson/National Trust Specialist Publishing, 2016). Michelle Ogundehin is a writer, author, brand consultant and presenter familiar to BBC television viewers as a judge on Interior Design Masters. She is the former Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Decoration UK and internationally renowned as an authority on interiors, trends, wellbeing and style.
