Table of ContentsReviewsJames Foster - Essex Captain It hit home to me whilst being interviewed for this book just how privileged I am to be following in the footsteps of so many outstanding Essex cricketers who have played their part in some amazing matches involving the county over the years. To have contributed in a small way on a personal basis to some of the games featured in the book is a very special feeling. As the current captain of Essex, looking back in this way over the history of the club is fascinating - I am sure members and supporters will feel the same way when they look back on so many moments to remember in '60 Classic Essex Matches' Author InformationTony Debenham saw his first Essex match at Ilford against the South African tourists in 1951 and was 'hooked' from that moment. Thirty years as a club cricketer followed, with the occasional visit to an Essex game a seasonal highlight. Retirement from playing (and coincidentally from work) gave an opportunity to be involved with the administration of Essex CCC on a voluntary basis and over the past 20 years he has held a variety of honorary positions at the Club. From a very early age Tony has been collecting 'anything cricket' and now has a large haul of books, postcards, cigarette cards, autographs, photographs and ceramics. Essex items have, of course, always held a special attraction and the photographs in particular have proved useful in the production of this book. It seemed only natural that when Essex CCC sought to establish a cricket museum on the ground at Chelmsford in 2006 that Tony should take a leading role, and he is currently Chairman of its Management Committee. Paul Hiscock was taken by his father to his first day of county cricket at Ilford as a five-year-old, where he watched the county play Kent, and became addicted to cricket as a result. After many years working in the life assurance industry, he moved into journalism where he covered Essex cricket, home and away, for more than a decade - contributing features and match reports for a number of local daily and weekly newsgroups. He is now a regular contributor to the Essex Cricket website, the county's yearbook, and the Test Match Extra website. He is also the county correspondent for the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack and a member of the Cricket Writers' Club. Paul is married with three children and has lived in Essex throughout his life. Apart from his family and cricket, Paul's other passion is following the fortunes of Leyton Orient Football Club. Greg Lansdowne saw his first Essex game at his local Ilford ground in 1983 and has been following the Club as a supporter, member and, more recently, employee ever since. Greg occupied the role of Communications Manager at Essex between 2003-2008 and continues to work on a freelance capacity as editor of the Yearbook, magazine and various other Club publications. Greg has been working within the sports industry since 1995, initially primarily in football before focusing more on cricket in recent years. Greg has also worked in a freelance capacity for organisations such as the ICC, IPL and Yahoo Cricket - as the Chief Correspondent on the official 2009 World Twenty20 website - as well as launching his own magazine aimed at fans of Asian cricket, Big Hitter.
