Reviews

Urban sketcher Scully's book on drawing people includes four chapters on observation, subject matter, time-saving techniques, and supplies. Clear and catchy headings such as hair in a hurry describe short idea sections consisting of diagrammed examples and five brief tips. There are no step-by-step exercises, but instead many examples of sketches by a variety of artists with short explanations of methods used. This guide encourages readers to jump right in, providing the basics on composition; proportions of human faces and bodies; the details of facial features; and posture and portraiture. Discussion of technique focuses on speed. With this guide, anyone who wants to fit making art into their busy schedule will find ample inspiration and practical advice to make that happen.--Heather Halliday Library Journal (02/02/2017)
