明纯生于1953年中国上海市。 她在1966年遭逢史无前例的文革浩劫，刚读完小学就被迫中断了学业； 才15岁就被""一片红""的上山下乡大潮席卷至黑龙江黑河地区插队落户；几年后又转至一个安徽农场当知青。命运的转折点在1977年发生。她在文革后恢复的第一次高考中得以进入大学，成为77级大学生。她于1982年春获上海科技大学机械工程学士学位；再于1990年赴美国留学，获美国Wayne State University 机械工程硕士学位。而后，作为制造汽车自动装配流水线的设计工程师，一直在五大湖周边的美国公司工作。明纯自幼喜爱文学. 退休后，欣慰终于能够踏上心爱的文学创作之路。
