本書收集了許之微遊歷歐、美、亞三大洲25個國家的29篇遊記。這些遊記不僅向讀者介紹了各地的名勝，而且紀錄了作者遊歷中所見、所聞、所思，涉及到各地歷史地理、風土人情和社會現狀。旅遊幫助我們開闊眼界和加深認知。作者在中美兩國接受過國際政治、思想史、政治學和史學等學科的正規教育。遊歷天下，親臨其境，那些書本上如同乾枯藤蔓的理論，隨著目之所見，心之所動，便長出嫩綠的枝葉來。讀者不難在這些遊記中見到新穎的觀感和思想的火花。 在作者即將出版的另外一本文集《行旅遍五洲》中，將有更多的包括非洲和大洋洲的遊記發表。 許之微早年畢業於北京大學國際政治系並留校任教。上世紀80年代赴美，曾先後就讀於喬治城大學、約翰‧霍布金斯大學和密執安大學的研究生院。許之微勤於筆耕，多年來創作和發表過不少詩歌、劇本、散文、遊記，同時受邀舉辦過哲學、歷史、宗教，以及文學和藝術的講座。繼2018年1月長篇小說《越洋追兇》由中國作家出版社出版後，許之微又有短篇歷史小說集《俄羅斯歷代沙皇傳奇》、長篇小說《嚴冬》以及學術普及性文集《學苑漫步》在海外出版發行。
