Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationJosie Reifschneider-Smith is a passionate historian, avid researcher, and relentless fact-checking editor who believes history is best when shared and, in the words of historian Leroy Hafen, ""never completed until read."" She has written several articles, edited many books, and authored Images of America: Tehama County. A special passion is bringing books by local historians to print (or back into print) for new audiences. She is a board member/publications editor for the Tehama County Genealogical & Historical Society (TehamaCountyHistory.com), the Association for Northern California Historical Research (anchr.org), and owner of Heidelberg Graphics, Chico, CA. Dr. Steve F. Sayles, University of La Verne professor of history from 1982 to retirement in 2015. He served as a professor of history, as chairman of the history and political science department, and as chairman of the legal studies program. He also taught in the honors program. Dr. Sayles was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of history, particularly the American West, as well as his ability to use media and pop culture to provide context for how historical events were received. He served with the 135th Assault Helicopter Company supporting South Vietnam soldiers in the Mekong Delta region. After Vietnam, he earned his doctorate in history from the University of New Mexico.
