二〇二〇年年初，新冠疫情在中国暴发，同年三月病毒飘洋过海，传到美国，于是作者开始记日记，试图为这段不平凡的日子做个个人的注脚。原本只想记录和疫情相关的内容，后来美国暴发了席卷全国的平权运动，又迎来了历史性的总统大选，中间还夹杂着中美关系的日益紧张，作者就一直记了下来。作品包括一百零六篇日记，所记内容既有风云变幻的大事件，亦有身边琐碎的日常；既反映了人们面对困境时所表现出的无奈和痛苦，亦呈现了人们在大灾难面前所表现出的勇气和智慧。部分日记在网络上发表过，多数未曾发表。搁置了一年以后，作者决定将日记整理成书，以便为二零二零年这段不平凡的历史留下一个较为系统的个人记录。当然，如果读者在 阅读这本日记，回望这段尚未走远的历史时，能获得些许思考和启迪，那就更佳了。
