Prepositions are very essential for mastery of the English language because they not only help you speak and write more naturally and flexibly, they help reduce the need for too large a vocabulary. For example, just using the word come and different prepositions can help you say a lot of things with precision without needing any extra vocabulary: He came about the car. He came behind the car. He came for the car He came from the car. He came in the car. He came inside the car. He came out of the car. He came with the car. He came without the car.
