OverviewThis wonderfully illustrated book is essentially a photographic guide to the butterflies of the world. It will cover 1,000 species from every corner of the globe, encompassing all key families and species, including the likes of monarchs, birdwings, swordtails, morphos, glasswings, and so on. Species will be arranged by family with six to eight to a spread (and some flagship species will receive a full page), and each stunning image, taken of wild butterflies in their natural surroundings, is accompanied by useful text on ID, interesting features and geographical distribution. 1,000 Butterflies is the perfect accompaniment to the author's first title on Butterflies of the World. Table of ContentsReviewsButterfly Conservation Magazine (Autumn 2016) This lavishly illustrated book is a photographic guide to all the world's families and sub-families of butterflies...if your pleasure is browsing superb photographs of butterflies on a cold winter's evening then this is one to add to your library. Dr Sam Ellis.; Dispar: The Online Journal of Lepidoptera in assoc with ukbutterflies.co.uk (Nov 16) In a sense this is a coffee table book - eminently browsable and gorgeously illustrated. At the price, it is worth getting for this alone. But because of its systematic completeness and impeccable research it is a serious addition to any butterfly library too. I wrote of the previous volume that it was difficult to find an argument not to buy it and the same holds true of this work, taken on its own. Should you buy both? I think they are sufficiently different to be able to recommend this but equally, as already suggested, each on its own gives a very good overview of the butterfly world. Guy Padfield Author InformationAdrian Hoskins has spent the last 25 years studying and photographing butterflies around the world, including many destinations in South and Central America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
