Overview

This work offers catechists and teachers many quick, creative and flexible means for observing holy days and holidays. There are 10 activities for each month of the school year, September through June. These activities - from attention getters to time fillers - can be used in religious education and home settings. Each activity is self-contained, providing background information and detailed instructions for the teacher and allowing time for prayer to be incorporated into the session. Activities are geared to children in grades two through five, taking into account their visual, auditory and tactile learning levels. There is also a combination of secular and religious observances which help children to connect the two in their daily lives, recognizing God in everything around them, and finding that their spiritual self is basic to their being, not just something to think about on Sunday. Sister Maxine's approach also serves to encourage early experiences in evangelization and ecumenism, leads childen to rejoice in the Word and facilitates the essential work of catechists in bringing children close to God.
