Overview"If it was easy, would you spend only 10 minutes a day to reduce your risk of Alzheimer's or other dementias? Especially if we have dementia in our family tree, we want to do everything we can to keep our brain healthy for as long as we can. Speaking for myself, I have dementia on both sides of my family tree with a direct link with my mother and my maternal grandmother. When my mother first had dementia, I researched over 600 pages and attended as many conferences that I could. This resulted in the publication of my own personal best-selling non-fiction book titled ""Broken Brain: Caretakers Guide to Alzheimer's and Other Dementias."" The book was updated and revised in 2023 due to exciting advances in brain research. If you are a caretaker or know somebody who is a caretaker for somebody with Alzheimer's or another type of dementia, this handy resource and information book is highly recommended. This book is the result of people telling me that they wanted to do something to try to delay the onset of dementia for themselves. Except for three rare types of dementia which are passed down through the family tree, (Familial Prion Disease, Huntington's Disease, and Young-Onset Familial Alzheimer's Disease) most dementias you can reduce your risk of developing dementia. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will never get dementia, it means that you are being proactive and doing the right things that may delay cognitive decline and may even delay the onset of dementia. Over 50 million people, worldwide, have dementia and that figure is rising. Listen to the experts. Experts in the field report that there are several strategies that can help us keep our brain healthy, which might reduce the risk of developing dementia. Some of the strategies that the experts recommend are a healthy diet, exercising the body, exercising the mind, and socialization. This book deals exclusively with ""exercising the mind."" Are you aware of fairly new research claims that certain types of Music Therapy and games may delay the onset of dementia for up to 5 years? That's a game changer! That's what this book is trying to do; to help you delay the onset of dementia. It is hoped that the delay can give you enough time for a cure to be invented. Even though our brain is an organ and not a muscle, like a muscle, you either ""use it or lose it."" Although research has mixed reactions to the value of certain games, they all agree that to effectively exercise the mind, there are two important things that must happen when playing a game or any other activity for brain health: You must do new things or You must do things in a new way. This book has a variety of games which can help you exercise your mind.
