Overview

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (John C. Maxwell) and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Stephen R. Covey) were massive inspirations for the development of this book. Having been in the project management field for over 25 years, I have discovered that the most successful project managers are also highly effective leaders. Since leadership and project management are synonymous in my mind, it became incumbent upon me to inductively determine which leadership styles make project managers the most effective in their roles. This book looks at my personal and profesional learnings in leadership; and backs it up with empirical research that suggests correlations between successful projects and the leadership styles of highly effective project managers. The 10 Leadership Styles for Highly Effective Project Managers offers practitioners a credible look at ten styles that have proven to be effective for new and experienced leaders. As a companion tool to this book, the Dale Leadership Effectiveness Matrix(c) (Appendix B) aids practitioners in identifying their most useful style and allows them to apply the 7 Commitments to Highly Effective Leadership (see page 126) to enhance their success.
