Overview

1 Timothy shows how Christians can live in harmony and with integrity in a society of people with differing religious and cultural beliefs and values. This commentary provides an exposition of 1 Timothy's message, which is relevant to many theological and pastoral situations faced by Asian church communities today. Along with the detailed commentary, the authors provide cultural reflections on various topics surrounding church, government, and society. The Asia Bible Commentary Series empowers Christian believers in Asia to read the Bible from within their respective contexts. Holistic in its approach to the text, each exposition of the biblical books combines exegesis and application. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the body of Christ in Asia by providing a pastoral and contextual exposition of every book of the Bible.

Faithfulness to the word of God in different times and places requires understanding those times and places. It is not only readers in Asia who will appreciate this commentary and its sensitivity to culture, customs, and the requirements of the gospel. It is a model study of how a letter written to a church in West Asia in the first century can speak powerfully to Christian communities in East Asia and elsewhere today. Rev. John Roxborogh, PhD University of Otago, New Zealand This commentary is an excellent work, well-suited for busy pastors and church leaders. It is easy to read yet comprehensive in its coverage of many theological issues presented by Paul in his letter to Timothy. The authors have proven their worth in being fair and even courageous in their views and applications of the teachings of 1 Timothy in various social and ecclesiastical contexts within Asian churches. Tony Siew, PhD Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Sabah, Malaysia This commentary is evangelical and pastoral, offering concise and lucid exegesis and its comparative application. The three authors complement Western exegesis by providing Asian insights. Young Mog Song, DPhil Kosin University, Busan, South Korea
