...& Tremolos

Overview

This volume, which Robertson claims will be her last, offers biting militancy, exasperation, resignation, bereavement, and goofiness as a defense against despair in a jagged world. With urgency, patience and longing for closure, she offers an at times breathless refrain: What is a (good) moral life?

Reviews

Lauri Robertson's poetry is in full bloom. Her latest work, ...& Tremolos, is her most mature, most profound, and most wide ranging to date. The pleasure of reading her work is considerable, to be savored slowly, and lingers long after reading. Pour yourself some tea, a scotch, or whatever you prefer, then sit back and give these poems the attention they deserve. -Mark Wheeler This volume, which Robertson claims will be her last, offers biting militancy, exasperation, resignation, bereavement, and goofiness as a defense against despair in a jagged world. With urgency, patience and longing for closure, she offers an at times breathless refrain: What is a (good) moral life? -Barbara DiMauro, author of Not Always Sorrow, and On This Earth Lauri Robertson has been a poet who uses narrative gently to convey meaning. In ...& Tremolos she also uses language to search for meaning, and one realizes what a beguiling proposition that is. There is sense, and there is quest. Philosophical and aphoristic, she again asks language to sing, or can't escape it. -Ilaria Pellegrini
