Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationA Unitarian Minister, Thomas Starr King was influential in California politics during the Civil War. Speaking zealously for the Union, he was credited by Abraham Lincoln for keeping California from becoming a separate country. Also during the war, he helped create the United States Sanitary Commission, the predecessor to the American Red Cross. Dr. Paul Rich has had a keen interest in Starr King's New England career at the Hollis Street Church, so much a part of his story. He is a member of the Bostonian Society, the New England Historic and Genealogical Society, and the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities.
