He graduated from Jefferson high school, received his Associate in Arts degree from San Antonio College, and graduated cum laude from St. Mary's University, receiving a Bachelor in Business Administration. He then attended the University of Texas Law School graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1967.
