He was an assistant professor at Indiana University from 1970-76 and Professor of Family Studies at the University of Kentucky from 1976-1992. He also served as Chair of the Department of Family Studies at the University of Kentucky, 1976-1984. He is married with three grown sons, Rick, Andrew, and Scott.
