Author Information

Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon rectory, in a wooded glade in north Hampshire, England. She was educated largely at home by her father and her brothers. Nurtured by her loving and enthusiastic family, Austen ultimately produced some of the most beloved works in the English language, including Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815), Northanger Abbey (1817), and Persuasion (1817). Jane Austen died on July 18, 1817 at the age of 41 and was buried in the north aisle of the nave of Winchester Cathedral.
