Overview

A classic heist thriller pitched somewhere between Ocean's Eleven and Dog Day Afternoon, it's the story of a group of software engineers who lose their jobs due to an industry push to outsourcing. Desperate, and seeing their middle class lives crumbling apart, they come up with a brilliant plan to use their computing skills to rob a bank. But not even a systems analyst can foresee every eventuality, so the group falls foul of the Russian Mafia.

a dryly witty take on the heist caper genre... a fast-paced action romp that has the inestimable advantage... that its characters are actually human -- Peter Millar * The Times * Zeltserman creates an intense atmospheric maze for readers to observe Denton's twisting and turning between his rocks and hard places. Denton is one of the best-realised characters I have read in this genre, and the powerfully noir-ish, uncompromising plot, which truly keeps one guessing from page to page, culminates with a genuinely astonishing finale * Sunday Express * Zeltserman is the author of increasingly accomplished crime novels, distinguished by spare and crisp prose, believable dialogue, imaginative plot twists and tightly wound characters who don't wear out their welcome * Newsday * Dave Zeltserman is one of the new, highly original voices in crime fiction, his writing spare, disciplined and concrete. His plots are as original as anyone writing hard-boiled fiction with an attractive noir edge, and always grimly entertaining * Weekend Australian * A small gem of crime fiction * Booklist USA * A riveting thriller all too topical in todays job market, Outsourced is a read that shouldn't be overlooked for thriller readers. * Midwest Book Reviews, USA * A dark, lightning-paced read * Financial Times * Bodies mount up as the double dealing and revenge gather apace. The blurb on the book describes it as a fast-paced, edge-of-your seat crime novel, and it really does live up to the hype. Add this to your holiday reading list for a piece of escapism * Morning Star * You can outsource software engineering, but so far at least you can't outsource crime writing as good as Zeltserman's. * Boston Globe *

* 'A white-knuckle ride... a cracking piece of hard-boiled noir... different kinds of venality are put wittily under the microscope as the book rattles along to its terrific conclusion' Metro Praise for Small Crimes * 'The plot of Small Crimes is a thing of beauty: spare but ingeniously twisted and imbued with a glossy coating of black humor. Zeltserman takes up all the familiar tropes of the formula -- femmes fatales, frighteningly dysfunctional families, self-destructive drives and the death grip of the past -- and shows how infinite are the combinations that can still be played on them.' Maureen Corrigan, Washington Post
