OverviewThis is a collection of comics that peers into the life of Nia, a person disabled by Idiopathic Hypersomnia. This is, at times, an insightful and mildly educational story, with descriptions of the symptoms that map the current path to the diagnosis and beyond. And other times it is a cathartic bunch of jokes that poke fun at the hardships they go through every day. Nothing within these pages is meant as medical advice. It is simply a weathered crack on a wall to gaze through; a tear in the wallpaper to all of the rooms Nia has inhabited from cradle, to cupboard under the stairs, all the way to an apartment they call a home.Albeit mildly biographical, this is also a reflection of stories of others with this disorder. An echo of the thick fog that fills your skull with smothering clouds, limbs weighed down by sleep, and eyes that burn under eyelids so heavy that every blink is a dangerous dance against dreaming. Nia was never, and has never been, the only inmate in the Prison of Sleep. Each of these comic strips was drawn in that place between waking and sleep, with hands that shook with exhaustion of a human being. NO AI was used in any step of the process.
