OverviewFRIVOLITIES (Plays Volume 1, 2nd Edition): is a small collection of quirky, theatrically inventive and entertaining full-length plays filled with memorable characters, hilarious situations, witty and crisp dialogue and unbridled imagination. THE MEYER SISTERS: Bickering spinsters Adrian and Kathleen Meyer, a former Sister Act from the golden age of radio -- and healthy drinkers, are receiving coded communications from outer space through their Silvertone radio. Are the Meyer Sisters planetary Ambassadors or are they a cleverly disguised Communist threat, or are they simply a pair of ordinary, everyday ax murderers? Why are the two USAF Majors investigating the sisters' claims so odd? What's the big secret in the basement? And when making lemonade, remember; don't bruise the booze. THE WIGMAKER'S DILEMMA: It is a trite, but true, observation that when Mrs. Blather entered the sleeping chamber of his Lordship, Sir Thomas Duckworth, he had, sometime in the night before, the misfortune of having died in his sleep. Sir Thomas has been murdered; that is in evidence; the mystery is who did it and why. The events of this black comedy are cleverly revealed in reverse order. Chocked full of rivaling siblings, clever disguises, a bilious housemaid, bleating sheep, and a Wigmaker who is at the mercy of his unscrupulous libido. All these characters are being carefully manipulated by a woman scorned. POE (an opera sauvage): In September of 1849, en route to wed his newest beloved, the chronically destitute and alcoholic writer/poet Edgar Allan Poe mysteriously disappeared. Five days later, America's Poet Macabre materialized in a Baltimore saloon deranged, delusional and wearing another man's clothing. He died at Washington College Hospital a few days later. What happened to Poe during those missing five days and the cause of his death has been one of literature's great mysteries and the subject of this highly theatrical play. SHOOKIE LUVS MISSOURI: Shookie, a feisty Appalachian woman, recalls the good times and tribulations of being the lifelong friend of Missouri Howard in a one-woman performance piece. This play is an oral history of growing up in the 1920's, and 30's in the small coal mining town of Persimmon, West Virginia tucked away in the Appalachian mountains. Shookie reveals a lifetime also filled with berry pickin', cornshuckin', candy drawin', granny women, crazy quilts and a dog named Bouncin' Ring.
